Samsung Galaxy S II
The Wall Street Journal has reported that one of the most anticipated phones of this year, the Samsung Galaxy S II will not be offered on Verizon’s network. This changes Samsung’s plans of releasing a different version of the Samsung Galaxy S II for each major carrier as was once rumored before. Verizon spokeswoman, Brenda Raney offered no explanation as to why Verizon will be passing on the Android powered Galaxy S II other than the fact that they already have an “extensive portfolio” of devices. According to BGR, Verizon will instead be releasing a Samsung device with similar specifications but it will not be the Galaxy S II. Could it possibly carry the Droid name?
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and whether or not this will affect Samsung’s intend to compete with the iPhone 5. Until then, make sure to check back with us next week when Samsung will be announcing the release of the Galaxy S II in September for AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint at their special event next Monday.
What do you think of Verizon’s decision? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
