Sprint’s Q3 Roadmap: Epic 2, Possible Galaxy S II, & BlackBerries Galore
Filed under Rumors by Coty Spence on June 24, 2011 at 12:19 PMSprint has really been stepping their game up in an all-out effort to stay competitive in the US wireless market. They just launched the HTC EVO 3D, which is arguably the best HTC handset available, and it doesn’t look to stop there. Sprint actually has quite a bit planned for Q3 this year and beyond with the Samsung Epic 2, a possible Galaxy S II variant, and more goodies as well. Hit the break for all the juicy details!
Samsung Epic 2
The Samsung Epic 4G, Sprint’s specially designed Galaxy S variant in 2010, was definitely one of their more popular phones, so a successor to that phone isn’t out of question. When we use the term successor, that doesn’t exactly imply that the device will be a huge upgrade like the EVO 3D is to the EVO 4G. The Samsung Epic 2 will sport a 4 inch display (probably Super Amoled Plus), a 1.2Ghz single-core Hummingbird processor, and an 8MP camera. The Epic 2 will be in the same line of phones as the Infuse 4G on AT&T and the DROID Charge on Verizon. No dual-core goodness here, but if Samsung can improve the keyboard and make the device a tad thinner, we will have a winner here.
Samsung “Full Touch” 4G Device
If physical keyboards aren’t your thing, it looks like Sprint has a Samsung phone planned that is strictly touch screen. No details on this device yet, but we’re willing to bet it’s Sprint’s Galaxy S II variant, the Within.
BlackBerries Galore
Even though Android may be the craze on this particular leaked roadmap, Sprint still has plans for BlackBerry devices. Sprint is getting ready to launch a BlackBerry Bold Touch and Monaco, both which are world capable GSM phones. Lastly, Sprint is gearing up a new push-to-talk BlackBerry device which will hopefully succeed the ancient Curve 8350i. If anyone out there still uses/relies on push-to-talk based phones, this will be a dream come true.
While there isn’t any dual/quad core business to salivate over on this roadmap (although the Samsung Touch device may be a GS II variant), it still looks very solid in our eyes. With the EVO 3D already out, Sprint may very well have the most solid lineup of phones available, and with rumors of the iPhone 4S/5 heading Sprint’s way, we’d have a tough time recommending another carrier.
