Samsung Vibrant Upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo

T-Mobile has pushed the update for the Samsung Vibrant that will upgrade the phone’s software from Android version 2.1 Eclair to Android version 2.2 Froyo. The news comes after an announcement from the CMO of T-Mobile that the Vibrant would start receiving Android 2.2 Froyo on January 21st. The phone was launched July 15th of 2010, so the update to Android 2.2 comes around six months after release.

T-Mobile and Samsung have been under fire lately from consumers wondering why the upgrade took such a long time. Vibrant users have been dealing with laggy Android 2.1 Eclair builds and firmwares that leave the GPS function gimped. Android 2.2 Froyo will bring a plethora of much needed and wanted updates. Check out the list below for a preview of some of the new features.

You can download the Android 2.2 build to your T-Mobile Vibrant by installing Samsung Kies Mini. It’s available here. The upgrade will not come via a mandatory over-the-air update today, but may in the future with additional updates.
