Samsung Possibly Preparing Galaxy S II Plus to Compete with iPhone 5
Filed under Rumors by Coty Spence on June 27, 2011 at 8:24 AMApple’s divergence from their usual WWDC iPhone unveiling has put pressure on competitors to prepare new products to compete with a possible iPhone 5 this Fall. Rumors have been cultivating for months suggesting that Samsung will unveil a new high-powered Android handset this Fall and a new report sheds light on the prospect. Hit the break for more details!
Previous rumors declared that Samsung would release the Galaxy S III this Fall to compete directly with the next-generation iPhone. The Galaxy S II has just released in Eastern markets and hasn’t even made way to the United States; a Galaxy S III sounds a bit out of the question right now. More importantly, the Galaxy S II was a massive upgrade from the original Galaxy S and the technology necessary for another upgrade of that magnitude is not ready yet.
Sources close to PopHerald suggest this new high-powered handset could possibly launch with the Galaxy S II Plus branding, as it is just an enhanced version of the Galaxy S II. Interestingly enough, one of their sources states the phone will not have Galaxy branding at all and could just be a totally new handset. This new high-powered phone might include a 1.4Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, Android 2.3.4 with Samsung’s Touchwiz UX, and a release date of August or September.
Consumers who have just adopted the Galaxy S II may be frustrated to hear that an enhanced version of the phone may come out a few months later. Do you think Samsung needs to release a new high-powered flagship phone just to compete with the iPhone 5? Could that possibly do more harm than good?
