Samsung - 2012 London Olympics
If you don’t already know, Samsung is one of the key sponsors of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. The phone division is sponsoring the ever-famous torch relay as seen above. But, this year, when the Olympic Games start in July, Samsung may launch a product alongside their ambitious Olympic sponsorship.
We weren’t told any details regarding that individual product, but an All Things Digital reporter interviewed Samsung’s Younghee Lee and she said that the “company will aim to more directly tie the games to a product launch.” With a big endorsement/sponsorship deal such as the Olympics, Samsung will likely launch something proportionately big in the mobile world. For Android enthusiasts, the device everyone’s anticipating is Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Lee “declined to say” if the Galaxy S III was in fact the product.
In addition to their Olympics sponsorship, Samsung also bought a prime television advertisement spot during the Super Bowl— the most watched television program in the world. Lee says the company’s new marketing focus is aimed at making customers “feel” an allegiance of kinds to the brand. She wants users to be “obsessed” with Samsung, just like they are with Apple and its iPhone.
So, we’ll add the 2012 Olympic Games to the list of possible Galaxy S III launch times. It was previously rumored that the Galaxy S III would launch next week at the Mobile World Congress convention in Barcelona. But, this rumor was refuted by a number of inside sources.
