Thanks to the guys at Grack.com, the HTC EVO 4G was rooted a number of days ago. We even saw a glimpse of the Sprint superphone running Android 2.2 Froyo.
Now, only a day before the release of the EVO, the group over at Grack.com and unrEVOked.com have released their root instructions for the device. And, some new developments from the hackers who engineered this root. According to them,
“The Sprint customizations of Android are so bad that an Android application could get access to all of your data with very little work. It’s so bad that I would not recommend purchasing the Sprint EVO or Hero.”
The blog writer continued saying that Google and Sprint are working to patch up the security holes. For those of you who still wanted the EVO 4G bad enough, you can find out how to root it here. And if you want to get your Froyo on, check this thread out. But, be warned:
“What doesn’t work:
- cameras < i believe that it may be possible to fix at least the main cam. will work on this first
- mms < send can be fixed i know for sure. will come in next build
- 4G DATA < maejrep was working on this a bit. still not sure how 4G works just yet. i will look into it
- tethering < at the moment, its no dice“
You can get your HTC EVO 4G at Sprint stores nationally, Best Buy, RadioShack, on HTC’s website, or at Sprint’s site.
