Cobra Universal Headrest Tablet Mount
Cobra once again delves into the accessory foray with the Universal Headrest Tablet Mount, offering up an option to help entertain your backseat drivers. The Cobra Universal Headrest Tablet Mount presents itself as being an ‘all-you-need’ option, able to hold any tablet you throw at it. Its patented adhesive boasts a superior experience, and promises a perfect grip.
Does this mount live up to its potential? Will it suffice for those long road trips as you attempt to entertain the kiddos? Find out after the break.
- Simple and quick installation with no glue, mess, or tools required.
- Swivel and lock ball-n-socket joint for custom viewing with full access to controls and ports.
- Foldable for compact travel, and easy movability for use from car to car.
- Ever-Last Breakaway Adhesive Device can be sprayed with simple glass cleaner to revive stickiness.
- Compatible with Cell Phones, PDA’s, iPods, MP3 Players, tablets, eBooks, and portable gaming units including iPad, Kindle, Nook, and more.
The Headrest Mount build is solid and durable, and appears as though it will hold up nicely over time. The joints are adjustable, allowing you to set resistance as you desire. Each post bracket offers a clamp that when tightened secures the mount solidly around each post. The Universal Headrest Mount also features a swivel joint that permits the user to maneuver the device into what ever angle they desire in use.
The tablet platform has a ledge at the bottom for your tablet to rest on, and feet to prevent it from sliding forward. Affixed to the platform are three adhesive discs, spaced evenly apart to allow for different size tablets. Each disc uses Cobras EverLast adhesive, and held the tablet very stable.
I have one serious complaint in using the mount: I wish the arms were in some way extendable. In one of my cars, it was just fine… the arms offering enough length for different angles with the tablets. With my second car, the headrest posts are spaced further apart, and that forces the tablet to sit up against the headrest directly. The posts simply are not long enough for use in some vehicles, limiting usability of the device.
Cobra’s patented adhesive on the platform surface is the same as on their Cigarette Mount, and it worked flawlessly, gripping each device without issue. I used the mount with two standard tablets, as well as one 7 inch Android tablet. Each device was held securely, and offered full access to their ports and buttons. I did not notice any residue left over on my phones when I removed them from the mount.
I wonder how long the adhesive will remain effective with prolonged use. Several uses per day, every day may find a gradual decline in its ability to hold your phone. As with their Cigarette Lighter Mount Cobra does term the adhesive as being “EverLast”, and time will tell if it lives up to that descriptive. Unfortunately, I did not find any kind of guarantee in their product specifications. They do say that a little window cleaner sprayed on the adhesive will bring back its stickiness.
While not perfect, the mount offers a decent experience in use. If you are looking to keep the kids entertained on the road, I’d recommend giving this accessory a try. It is worth noting that you need to take a look at your car headrest to determine this products usefulness; if your headrest posts are spaced apart more than 4 to 5 inches you will find this product to be lacking. Your experience may vary.
The Cobra Universal Headrest Tablet Mount is available now for $39.95. Head on over to their site for more info, or to order one for yourself. I did find it slightly cheaper over on Amazon, listed at $24.95.
