Nokia to Cut 10,000 Jobs Before 2014

We all know Nokia is trying to significantly reduce is operating expenses, while also gaining traction in the mobile market. Yesterday, the Finnish company announced that it plans to cut 10,000 more jobs before 2014. This brings its grand total of layoffs to 40,000 since 2010.

With these cuts, Nokia plans reduces costs by nearly $2 billion. Nokia’s 2013 spending equal €3 billion, down from the $6.6 billion in 2010.

Nokia’s executive vice president and CFO, Timo Ihamuotila, said “With these planned actions, we believe our Devices and Services business has a clear path to profitability. Nokia intends to maintain its strong financial position while proceeding aggressively with actions aimed at creating shareholder value.”

In addition to the 10,000 employee layoffs, Nokia announced that executives Jerri DeVard, chief marketing officer, Mary McDowell executive, vice president of Mobile Phones, and Niklas Savander executive vice president of Markets will all be leaving the company.
