Motorola Atrix Gingerbread Android 2.3.3
Motorola launched the Atrix 4G back in February on the 22nd with Android 2.2 Froyo on-board. Since then, the Atrix has seen two over-the-air updates bringing much needed features like increased battery life and HSUPA capabilities. One update per two months seems to be the pace for Moto and AT&T on this device. Seems like Atrix users should be due for another update pretty soon, don’t it? We’ve got you covered.
AT&T and Motorola plan to launch Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Motorola Atrix 4G within the months of June or July. The initial build will likely be Android 2.3.3 with an update to Android 2.3.4 following soon after. The Atrix 4G launched with software version 1.2.6, moved to 1.5.7, and landed on 1.8.3. But, this next update will bring most likely bring users to build number 4.5.XX.
Of course, Motorola’s packed some major features into this update including, but not limited to: overscroll glow, an updated version of Blur, application grouping, re-built main applications, downloads management, an improved camera, better power management, a re-done keyboard, and some nifty animation work. The device’s new version of Blur looks a lot like the Droid X’s recently obtained update.
Due to AT&T’s new policy regarding application sideloading, the “Unknown Sources” checkbox is present and working on the latest Android 2.3.3 builds for the Atrix. That means you’ll be able to sideload without rooting your Atrix. Of course, there are still reasons to root the Atrix. Especially once the bootloader bypass method finally comes to fruition.
We’ve extensively and exhaustively reviewed the Atrix Gingerbread build below for your viewing pleasure. Make sure to check out the pictures as well as the video content after the break!

how can we get this on our Atrix?
This is just a beta version. Unfortunately, users will have to wait until June/July to get the over-the-air update.
Hey Ken, stupid question, will having Gingerblur installed effect getting the over air update for Gingerbread ?
I hope they get the skype sound issue resolved soon
When will it get to version 2.3.3? Any news?
Scooby dooby doooooooooo!!!
What’s the camera app look like? Did we finally get tap to focus and panorama stitching like the droid’s?
There’s a drag-to-focus type of thing, yes. I don’t see a panorama effect anywhere. The camera application is a bit nicer. Still doesn’t have 1080p recording.
Kenneth will you be tweaking or continuing a P-rom (gingerblur) after we update to gingerbread!!!
If we can gain root access, GingerBlur on Gingerbread will be a go. :D
i assume its okay to put this on the moto forum as well?
Ken…everyone is waiting for your new on the xda forum….
1. What are the additional camera features ?
2. Could you do a benchmark test ?
I believe its for 1080P because they said that would come later.
1080p is not available in this build.
Can`t wait to get it!!!!!!
Engadget has been tipped…
I’d do anything to get this on my phone…
This is awesome, I’m waiting to upgrade on AT&T right now from my Nexus One and I may end up picking this up depending on the phone situation next month.
I’m in the same boat. The power switch on my N1 is flaking out and the software solution is working, but annoying. I’m looking at the Atrix as it’s replacement.
dude just get htc.
you guys wont be dissapointed. i also upgraded from a nexus one. despite motoblur being ugly n slowing the phone down, all you have to do is install a launcher. the phone is extremely fast, battery life is awesome, and i cant live without the fingerprint scanner. it’s got a dualband wifi which is another plus since i can download files from my home server at speeds of up to 3.5MB per second.
Looks great! Cant wait for that to be released. New motoblur actually appears to be usable.
I think functionality saw a large bump in this Gingerbread update. Still, Moto Blur is ugly in my honest opinion.
So is motoblur the reason why the notification bar is blue?
Will this update include syncing the group information from Google Contacts?
Seems that the existing version of built in contacts application does not support showing the grouping information of G Contacts…
NICE! any benchmark scores?
how much better is the camera?
Can’t wait for this!!!
And Bell still won’t see the update for 6 months I’m sure.
Anyone can check the kernel of atrix is 32 or 35?, if 35 is right, there will be sensational changes, but 32, it will be horrible. but I can see the kernel is 32 up there. ;( I hope the 35 kernel onboard.
It’s 32.
omg=)mm true=)(?
Are you going to release this Ken?
Do you think the improved camera will fix the graininess in the camera?
Has there been a release date confirmation yet?
GIMME!!!!
seriously! any more information on release dates or when “someone” can leak it?
hi this is great but will Motorola add support to Hebrew and Arabic and will we be able to set the proxy settings
Ive had this phone since release and replaced it twice. its going to take alot more than gingerbread to keep me from getting rid of it.
May I ask what problems you’ve encountered with the Atrix? I own an Atrix and have been nothing but satisfied with it. I traded my iPhone 4 for the Atrix and it was a great decision.
ATT says the upgrade is now in June.. today is 16th.. Does anyone really know or heard when is this 2.3.3 upgrade is going to come out?
Is that any other good ROM for the ATRIX based on the 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 out there ? I cannot wait to use the new GTALK with video on my ATRIX, but I heard that the video parte is only in the 2.3.4 release … which god know when ATT will release it, after 2.3.3.
I heard of ODEO or ODEN but I am not sure about it yet. I think that it is just a theme for the gingerbread…
I love my Captivate phone, it has many types of ROMs…. Now with my new cool ATRIX, I see very little about it.
Any help or ideas on where to get the new 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ROM for the ATRIX today?
thanks
Ron
The Atrix is my first Android phone and I love it. I can’t wait to use the new motoblur and 2.3 gingerbread. Really looking forward to it.
wheeeeeeeeeeeeen
When will it get to version 2.3.3? Any news?
I love my Atrix. its my first android phone too. cant wait for the update.. and yes the battery life sux
How do you update to the new Ginerbread? It’s August and I’ve already manually checked for updates. I’m still running the Froyo on my Atrix. Also, when is the 4G going to be ready? I’m tired of this HSPA+ thing.
