Motorola Atrix 4G 1.5.7

Motorola’s brand new top-of-the-line Atrix 4G is set to receive an official update from AT&T within the coming days. Luckily, Atrix-lovers will no longer need to wait for this over-the-air push as BriefMobile has obtained the files necessary to update Atrix 4G devices. The update package comes in the form of a system boot file (SBF) that will replace the stock build with the latest and greatest from Motorola.

According to Motorola, the latest 1.5.7 upgrade will bring Atrix 4G users enhanced Bluetooth functionality with additional headset support. Also, the fingerprint scanner, car dock, and battery life performances are all set to rise after a few bugfixes and modifications. This update should fix potential screen problems with touch unresponsiveness, as well.

Unfortunately for rooted users, Motorola’s 1.5.7 update has patched the “psneuter” hole that previously allowed for Superuser root access. Overall, looks like a fairly minor update from Motorola for Atrix users. No word yet on a Bell version of the update, but I’m sure an OTA for the Bell Atrix can’t be too far behind.

Instructions

To install this update file, you must use the RSD Lite program on a Windows PC. Refer to our SBF installation guide here for more instructions. This SBF has been tested on an Atrix 4G device, but a smooth update is not guaranteed.

Prerequisites

  • Download RSDLite 5.0 (MediaFire mirror)
    • Install the program
  • Download SBF file from above links
  • Fully charged device
  • Drivers installed (if you rooted your phone, your computer has the necessary drivers)

BriefMobile cannot be held responsible for device damage due to this guide.

  1. Make sure your phone is turned off
  2. Take out your microSD card and SIM card for the flashing process
  3. While turning the phone on, hold the Volume Up button until it acknowledges RSD
  4. Your device will say “Starting RSD protocol support”
  5. Run “RSD Lite” on your computer
  6. Press the “. . .” button next to the box labeled “Filename”
  7. Load up the SBF file
    • The SBF file is located inside of the .gz file, you must extract it out before loading it into RSD Lite
    • Use WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the .gz file on your computer
  8. Plug your device into your computer
    • Use the USB ports on the back side of your computer for safety
  9. RSD Lite should recognize your device and say “Model: NS Flash Olympus” and “Connected…”
  10. Press the “Start” button
  11. Be patient while the phone reboots. It will take a long time.
  12. Congratulations!

Has anyone tried this yet…? does it actually provide any noticeable improvements?

i wouldn’t even be mad about the root loophole being closed – provided it can be reopened, if this means that a Bell sfb is being released soon. That just means for me that development for cross-carrier stuff can get started :D

    I’ve got one… it’s a great phone.
The laptop dock is cool. I charges the phone using its own battery and can almost triple the battery life of the phone.
That said, thanks to our friends at xda-developers you can get “Webtop Via HDMI Without a Dock”, you don’t even need to root!

    Pros:
Very fast & reliable (android 2.2 FTW)
Loud speaker (Max volume will get your attention from across the house)
    Bright LED flash
Firefox in webtop can play hulu (kinda choppy tho)

    Cons:
    Motoblur
Battery life / temperature on load (idle is fine)
    Dock cost is annoying
Signed bootloader (no third party ROMs)

All in all… I like it better than my 3GS
