Galaxy S Captivate ROM KitchenSamsung’s Galaxy S devices have attracted a lot of external developers to the platform with their excellent hardware and high sales volume. Over ten million Galaxy S devices were sold worldwide since release, and Galaxy S users have created some truly compelling custom ROMs and modifications. An exciting new development in the Samsung Galaxy S and Captivate arena is the creation of the Magical ROM Machine Kitchen, which allows Galaxy S and Captivate users to use some of the latest additions and modifications to build their own custom ROMs.

The ROM Kitchen, available at ROMKitchen.org, was created by users Stefunel and  DocRambone. Everything is completely customizable, allowing users to freely create the best concoction they can come up with. We accessed the ROM Kitchen to review some of its features, and we’re pleasantly surprised with the results.

ROM Kitchen Customizable Features

  • Base ROM
    • The base ROM allows you to pick which Samsung-released build you’d like to start with. Right now, there are required wipe and no wipe versions available of the latest Android 2.2.1 JPY build.
  • Kernel
    • Galaxy S developers have created a plethora of solid kernels to be used with custom ROMs, the kernel feature allows one to pick between kernels that have undervolting, overclocking, Voodoo, Universal Lagfix, etc.
  • Modem
    • The modem is the base for one’s Galaxy S (or Captivate)’s connectivity. A good modem can increase your GPS accuracy, make your calls louder and clearer, or hype up your internet speeds.
  • Apps
    • Launchers
      • Launchers are the base homescreen for your phone. You can choose between some Google-made AOSP launchers or third party ones that allow for advanced features.
    • Keyboards
    • Base Apps
    • Utilities
  • Themes
    • Not only can you develop your own basic ROM, you can pick and choose between multiple themes that will change around your Galaxy S’ look and feel.

Overall, we found the Magical ROM Machine Kitchen to be an important new tool for the creation of custom ROMs. With the kitchen, users are more in control of their devices than ever before. So, if you’re looking to snazz up your Galaxy S or Captivate, head over to ROMKitchen.org to get started.

WHAT'S HOT

I myself built a rom for my Captivate using DocRom kitchen, and it is pretty awesome. It gives me the option to put whatever app, kernel (OC/nonOC) I want without, going through uninstalling then using TiBu.

If anyone looking to built their own custom rom on Galaxy S, currently this is the best place to start.

I use DocRoms for about 3 months now and they impress me again and again. Now with the RomKitchen it’s even better and easier…the only sad thing is…i don’t have anything more to do by my own except from flashing it :P

I’m using Doc’s roms for about 3 months now with satisfaction. It’s modded to be fast and reliable and it’s always tested thoroughly before public release.

The RomKitchen IMHO is a revolutionary result of open source and it allows the individuals the ultimate customization of their PDA. Users can have almost immediate support at xda-forums when have any problems/questions.

Thx Stefunel and DocRambone! Great work!

Im running doc’s roms since he started on the SGS.
Every rom is a master piece, but the rom’s created in the kitchen are the ultimate one’s.
the variety of building a rom is unbelevable!
clear and failproof install instructions, good support, and unlimited options to create a rom to your own needs!
2 thumbs up for the romkitchen from doc and stefunel :)

i’m using Doc’s ROM ever since i bought my SGS 2 months ago and i didn’t flash other ROM since. the kitchen is an awesome idea and just when i was about to replace the SGS Doc came and built something that Samsung couldn’t. After flashing Doc’s ROM you can say “this is how SGS should run!”
