LG Optimus 3D is now the most Powerful Smartphone, Shreds through Benchmarks

Lately, all of the hardware talk has been about Tegra 2, Exynos, and Qualcomm Snapdragons (ironically). Many people, including myself, have been sleeping on Texas Instrument’s latest processor, the OMAP4. The only phone to use OMAP4 currently is the LG Optimus 3D. At first I found this odd because the Optimus 2X uses Tegra 2. Perhaps LG saw the extra power in OMAP4 and thought it was necessary for the 3D technology.

AnandTech, a respected mobile hardware blogsite, has posted benchmarks of the LG Optimus 3D compared to nearly every other major smartphone in existence.

Heck, the phone even scored 3,000 in Quadrant! LG couldn’t even pass this up; they blatantly showcased the score during their MWC event.

The LG Optimus 2X and Motorola Atrix both score around 2,300-2,600, while the Optimus 3D just shreds everything in its’ path and claims the title as the most powerful smartphone. The Optimus 3D features very interesting “dual” technology. It’ll be the first smartphone to utilize a dual-core processor, dual-memory, and dual-channel architecture (oh, and don’t forget those dual-cameras!). I didn’t think much of it at first (mainly because I had no idea how dual-memory or dual-channel would benefit) but after seeing these scores, I am now a believer. The Atrix 4G has lost the crown as the most powerful smartphone before it even launched.

2011 is shaping up to be one of the most monumental years in technology. Just as everyone got settled into the new dual-core craze, Nvidia announced their new quad core processor that will be in tablets and smartphones this fall. This is only the beginning folks.

Kinda worthless scores I can reach very close scores with my captivate. Real world use is the real test

  • Adam

And I’m guessing your Captivate is rooted, overclocked, and has lagfixes installed that are meant to boost benchmark scores?

I totally agree that benchmarks are near useless on Android smartphones. They’ve never proven to be reliable indicators of speed in my real-world tests.

But, don’t forget that our Captivates were only hitting like ~900 in Quadrant stock when they were released. The usage of the ext4 filesystem lagfix hack has allowed us to pull off the <3000 scores, but the Optimus 2X is pulling these higher scores without modification. That's fairly impressive.

True. However, in my tests with a Vibrant that was lagfixed and overclocked it still had considerable lag. I find it more impressive when a phone can hit that stock without all sorts of modifications running in the background.

Yeah… that’s exactly what I mean. The fact that the Optimus 3D can throw up scores like that unmodified is awesome.
