Our New Home

Undoubtedly, many of you have already noticed a dramatic change to our website. We have switched themes once again for 2012, and we feel that it’s our best yet. We hope all of our readers do too.

Thanks to the fantastic graphic design work of UX/UI designer Michelle Guieb, and the coding talents of our executive editor Kenneth Penington, we now have a cleaner and more cohesive design language. One of the first things you’ll notice is the front page. It has been completely reformatted and reorganized to allow for more articles to be present and for quicker loading times.

In addition to the clean and open feeling, we based the theme around increased site speed. The entire site is now coded in HTML5, allowing for much quicker load times. We were given a 95/100 from “Page Speed” by Google. Considering that Google itself gets a 98/100, and the next best technology blog gets 88/100, we are very pleased with the results.

Another major change that tags along with the redesign is our new review card system. We introduced the review cards on the old theme, but we didn’t have a use for them until now. In our Review Category you will now find 9 of the most recent review cards listed.

In addition to the above, we have also introduced a new category, Editorials, which will allow for our readers to easy find editorials we have written. The categories will just be listed articles as you can see, and now formatted like the front page.

We completely designed the preview for articles to shrink the size and increase load time. We installed a new feature bar in the header to allow for 9 featured articles. We’ve introduced a new author bar, moved the search bar to the header, simplified the side bar, and much, much more!

We have done all of this to make sure that you, the reader, can most efficiently find what you want—and even more importantly, so that you enjoy your stay! Even if you are on dial-up, our site will load nearly as quickly as Google. But please, don’t take my word for it. Go EXPLORE the site. Find out all the changes we have made and all the new features we have in store.

I want you to keep in mind the new theme is still being tweaked and refined. It’s stable and runs well, but we have a few more tricks up our sleeves that should impress you down the line, including a redesigned comments system!

Anyways, if something seems out of place or if you have a suggestion, please let us know right away! We want to get this thing perfect, and we are open to all suggestions. Kenneth, Will, and I have our emails listed on the About page, so feel free to shoot us a message to let us know what you think about the new theme!
