HTC Zeta

HTC has been on a roll lately with many of their upcoming smartphones getting leaked out. Their latest and most jaw dropping leak is being dubbed the HTC Zeta. The HTC Zeta promises some of the most unfathomable specs anyone could imagine being wrapped inside of a smartphone. The rate at which smartphone hardware is advancing is becoming surreal; Android has just barely gotten optimized for dual core processors thanks to Ice Cream Sandwich and we’re already on the verge of seeing quad core handsets run onto the scene. Hit the break for the mind blowing details!

The first thing you’ll notice is the design. The Zeta looks to have a massive footprint coupled with a very small bezel, the screen takes up an unusually large portion of the overall phone. Moreover, it looks very edgy and sharp which is a new combination from HTC who usually keeps things nice and round. The phone is about 9.3mm thick so it’s much thinner than the recent tanks HTC has been releasing such as the Amaze 4G or Rezound.

Next up are the specs and they simply crush anything we’ve heard about to date:

  • 2.5Ghz Quad Core Snapdragon S4 Processor, APQ8064,28nm
  • 4.5 Inch 720p Display
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 4.0 (And a new version of Sense possibly)
  • 8MP Rear Camera w/ Dual LED Flash & 1.3MP Front Facing Camera
  • 32GB Internal Storage
  • 1830mAh Battery
  • Beats Audio & Bluetooth 4.0

With specs like these you might question what actually warrants this kind of power on mobile devices. Additionally, you may argue that the upgrades in mobile hardware are vastly outpacing the software that runs on them. Hopefully we begin to see developers and OEMs develop new types of software that can make use of all this power. One area that’s very exciting in the mobile realm is gaming and with hardware this powerful developers will be able to crank out console quality games.

Qualcomm’s Krait processor, which is what the HTC Zeta will be sporting, isn’t due for sampling until June which lines up for a release of late next year. This phone won’t be hitting the scene any time soon, so don’t fret about you’re GALAXY Nexus being outdated any time soon, but it’s a solid indication of what’s to come.
