How To: Android 2.2 on Droid X

The Motorola Droid X already had a first leak of potential Android 2.2 software, but now it appears there is a second leak of an Android 2.2 update. The release is an upgrade in the over-the-air format. It simply updates the system to Android 2.2 Froyo.

In order to install the update you’ll need a rooted Droid X with Koush’s bootstrapper. Keep in mind: Motorola has announced that leaked updated phones will not be officially given an over-the-air update to the new firmware when released. If that doesn’t bother you, by all means move along. You can find the instructions over at MyDroidWorld– the source of the update. Or, just follow along below:

Instructions

  1. Restart the Droid X via Koush Bootstrap into Recovery Mode
  2. Proceed to wipe the data and then wipe the cache
  3. Select “Mounts and Storage”
  4. If it fails to install the first time around, select “Format System”
    If you’re on your first install, then move on to Step 5.
  5. Select “Mount System”
  6. Press the power button to back out
  7. Select “install zip from sdcard”
  8. Select “choose zip from sdcard”
  9. Select “DX-2313-Deodexed.zip” or what you named the downloaded zip
  10. First boot may take up to five minutes, be patient
  11. Go into Koush’s Bootstrap and re-do the bootstrap
