Corning, the maker of the ever-famous Gorilla Glass that’s so prevalent in the smartphone market, has announced the creation of Gorilla Glass 2. The second iteration of this famous glass includes noticeable improvements with a twenty percent reduction in glass thickness.

Although Gorilla Glass is getting thinner, users will expect and receive the same toughness and damage resistance as the original Gorilla Glass. With this new twenty percent reduction, Corning’s expanding the field on which manufacturers can play ball. They’re hoping and promising that more Windows PCs and smartphones will launch with Gorilla Glass 2 over the next months.

But, that’s not all. The reduced thickness will lead to increased touch sensitivity and brighter images— that means better smartphone displays are on their way. Excited much? I am.

Full press release after the break.
