Eric Schmidt, Google
When Apple released their brand new Maps application and removed Google Maps from the iPhone, people were understandably angry. Apple’s brand new Maps application doesn’t have the same data bank as Google’s, and they’re well behind the competition in this arena. Google, frustrated with the decision to remove another Google service from iOS, revealed that the company has been in talks with Apple on a daily basis.
Eric Schmidt insisted that Google was not happy with the decision to swap out its mapping service for an Apple-built one, saying:
We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call.
Schmidt is calming the rumors about a potential Google Maps application from the App Store on iOS. He said “We haven’t done anything yet with Google Maps… (Apple) would have to approve it. It’s their choice.” He declined to state whether or not the company was working on an application to release on the App Store.
