Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket (AT&T)

The source code behind AT&T’s first (or second along with the HTC Vivid) 4G LTE device was released today by Samsung. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket source code is now available for download over at Samsung’s Open Source Release Center. With an unlocked bootloader, plenty of sister Galaxy S II devices, and admirable hardware, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket is a developer’s dream.

Head on over to the Open Source Release Center, navigate to Mobile Phones, and search for the “SGH-I727″ model.

Unfortunately, the Skyrocket is essentially a T-Mo SGS2 with an LTE chip – meaning, it’s running on Qualcomm hardware. This presents some unique challenges, and makes it one of Samsung’s famous “hybrid” devices.

Still, we’ve got it covered over on XDA. ;-)

The good news is that ROMs are easily portable from the T-Mobile SGS2. The Exynos devices will still assist in software development on the Skyrocket platform, because software modifications are transferable.

It’s definitely regrettable not to have that Mali-400 inside the Skyrocket, but LTE is worth it (if you have it in your area).
