Facebook Phone

The New York Times is reporting that Facebook is designing a smartphone that will be released next year. According to the report, Facebook employees and others familiar with the build claim that project has been codenamed “Buffy” and that Facebook has hired “more than half a dozen former Apple software and hardware engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one who worked on the iPad.”  The report also quotes a Facebook employee who claims that Mark Zuckerberg “is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms.” Maybe Facebook has finally realized that they produce nothing and to stay viable in the future, they need to branch out into different markets where they actually produce something.
