The HTC EVO 4G from Sprint has just received an Android 2.2 Froyo over-the-air update. The update has arrived only hours prior to the August 3rd planned launch from Sprint. According to internal documents from Sprint, the 4G wireless company saw the race to Android 2.2 as a competitive maneuver that would place them at an advantage over Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile who all have no Android 2.2 Froyo phones as of yet. The only other Android 2.2 equipped device would be the Google Nexus One, which was sold independently of carriers by Google.
With Android 2.2, users should still see HTC’s Sense theme, a 2-5 times overall speed increase, Adobe Flash 10.1, built-in WiFi tethering, a new flashlight application, and the new Android 2.2 launcher. According to HTC’s Twitter profile, users who applied the unofficial update earlier this past week will be able to get back on the official track when HTC works out a fix for those devices.
So, how does your EVO 4G fly with 2.2?
