Echo Update Page

Last night a page went up detailing the Kyocera Echo update, and within those details was two surprising features, NFC support and WiFi calling. As shocking as this is, it is not true. A spokesperson for Kyocera contacted me ad said the update page went up “too soon” and was not suppose to be published until today. He said everything is correct about the entire page except for the two features in question. He goes on to say that the features were “experimental” and was not to be included in the Android 2.3.4 update.

The update page will be corrected sometime this morning to reflect the actual new features and enhancements of the update. The gingerbread update is pushing out today over the air. Kyocera Echo owners should begin seeing the update over the next few days. The update does in the recently beta tested Swype 3.0. Also new to the Echo is an “Eco Mode” which allows users to pre-set certain battery levels which the phone will automatically disable battery consuming settings.

Android 2.3.4 upgrade (Gingerbread) features:

  • An upgrade to the Sype 3.0 virtual keypad, with Tap Correction and Horizontal Word Choice List (predictive text)
  • An improved Downloads application, offering easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email or another application
  • Pinch-to-zoom in Browser, Gallery, Maps, & Sprint Navigation
