Clearwire Discontinuing New Activations for Pre-WiMAX Markets
Filed under News by Jeremy Meiss on January 27, 2012 at 10:38 AMClearwire recently told Phonenews that they will no longer be activating new service in pre-WiMAX markets. This move, they say, will not have any negative effect on markets currently selling Clear 4G WiMAX or anyone already enrolled in pre-WiMAX service.
The pre-WiMAX markets are those that date back to original plans by the Clearwire founder and his vision of bringing broadband, wireless internet to the masses, focusing on rural areas that did not have a access, or had limited options. These markets were supposed to get “quick” upgrades to WiMAX – but as we all know, WiMAX never really extended as far as Sprint hoped or thought it would and now LTE is the chosen direction.
With new infusion of Sprint dollars, and a plan to deploy a wholesale LTE network, let’s hope Clear customers are presented with some good options going forward.
