Cell Phones In Vehicles: The Good and the Bad

When it comes to having cell phones in vehicles, there are both good and bad aspects. No one can deny that most people have cell phones now. And no one can deny that most people feel the urge to update and be updated by these devices continually. However, when it comes to having that applicability inside a moving vehicle, it can cause issues.

Think about things like distracted driving, turn by turn instructions from a GPS, hands-free talking, and entertainment for passengers. All of these things are created through the use of cell phones inside of vehicles, but they run the gamut of good to bad.

Distracted Driving

Distracted driving causes more accidents than drunk driving these days. And cell phones are the primary culprit for not paying attention while trying to operate a motor vehicle. If you do end up in an accident because of distracted driving, you can call car accident lawyer Michael Kelly or one of many other legal representatives who specialize in car accidents and injury from an attorney’s perspective. To do your part, keep your eyes on the road and your attention on your driving, and assume other people can make errors that you will have to account for on the road.

GPS Availability

It is infinitely easier to get from one place to another on the road right now because turn by turn instructions for your cell phone are available. All of the pain of having to constantly look at maps or create a route that you are uncertain of is gone instantly. It’s important that you don’t depend entirely on GPS instructions because systems can go down, but 99% of the time it’s a miracle that you simply have to follow audio instructions to reach your destination.

Hands-Free Talking

Another thing that’s fantastic about having cell phones in vehicles is if you use the hands-free talking option. You can keep all of your attention on the road, and your hands on the steering wheel, but you can still talk to people through the speakers in your car. This freedom is ideal for doing business on the road, as well as for calling home to find out if you need to grab milk at the grocery store.

Entertainment For Passengers

Another great thing that comes from having cell phones in vehicles is if you use them for entertainment devices for otherwise finicky children. Car trips could be torture for parents who had to figure out how to entertain the children in the past. There is something to be said for kids learning to behave on their own, but occasionally having a cell phone there to provide entertainment (or even education!) to kids on the go is a definite benefit.
