Motorola Atrix
Motorola and AT&T will soon push out an update for the Atrix 4G— the carrier’s first dual-core phone that was released early last year. The gang at Motorola has divulged to beta testers that a soak test for the new software update will begin this next week. After days of testing, the update will officially be pushed over Motorola’s servers to AT&T Atrix 4G devices.

After speaking with a couple of internal sources, I can say without much doubt that this update will bring bugfixes and improvements to the current version of Android on the device— Gingerbread. Unfortunately, the upgrade will not bring any of that sweet Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich action to the Atrix.

It’s unclear at this point if development for a Motorola Atrix version of Android 4.0 will start, but we have no reason to believe that Motorola will upgrade the device to Ice Cream Sandwich. The device was launched in February, months before the Android manufacturers pledged to update devices with more diligence at Google’s I/O event in May.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, folks. If it’s any consolation, thanks to the Atrix’s unlocked bootloader, CyanogenMod 9 builds are already available on the device.
