Android 4.0 Hardware Acceleration

Many speculated that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich would include hardware acceleration. The technology’s available on other mobile platforms, so why not Android? Well, Google didn’t specifically announce this new addition at their Hong Kong meeting tonight. But, they did throw up the details on the Android SDK webpage.

According to Google, Android 4.0 will include hardware acceleration for all applications modified for a target version of “14” or Ice Cream Sandwich. Acceleration will offer users “smoother animations, smoother scrolling, and overall better performance and response to interaction,” says Google.

This new feature should allow Android devices to reach new maximum speed levels. Remember to check out all of the Ice Cream Sandwich features on our list.
