Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Those of you still on a stock build of Android 4.0.3 on Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus will be pleased to hear that yet another update is pushing out to some Nexii users across the country. So far, we’re not exactly sure what the upgrade contains aside from new radios and a new bootloader. We do have a user-reported list below:

Changelog

  • Extra options on the power/reboot menu for silent, vibrate, ringtone volume
  • Rotations/accelerometer reactions are much faster
  • Noticeably faster throughout operating system
  • 3G/4G switching is better/faster
  • Possible multi-touch bugs squashed
  • Android System in Battery Stats bug fixed
  • Better reported signal strength
  • Faster boot up time from power off position
  • Recent applications list opens faster
  • Camera UI improved
  • Increased volume through speakers
  • Keyboard noticeably less laggy
  • News & Weather application improved with new interface
  • Checkbox to make the power button an instant lock or not when security features are enabled (under “Settings” app)

Instructions

Prerequisites

 
  • Must restore to stock 4.0.2 version for CDMA Nexus
  • Verizon Galaxy Nexus only
Installation

 
  1. Root your Nexus device using a rooted 4.0.2 kernel
  2. Use a root file explorer to copy the downloaded zip file into:
    /cache
  3. Boot your Galaxy Nexus into recovery mode.
    • Disconnect the USB cable to be safe.
    • Power off the device fully.
    • Hold down the upward and downward volume buttons and continue to hold them.
    • Press the power button
    • Use the downward volume button to select Recovery mode
    • Press the power button to enter recovery mode
  4. Install the update zip file through your recovery.
  5. Congratulations! You are now upgraded.

    thanks for information.  since i am a newbie with a nexus.  How doyou do step 1 in your directions.. Root……using rooted kernel.  i tried copy the zipped file to /cache folder with astro file manager and get error message.  thanks

    You need to enable root access in your file manager. Root Explorer does it by default. In Astro, it may need to be enabled through the menu >> settings part of the app.
