Android 2.2 will be officially released for the Motorola Droid X on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. The update will be pushed by Verizon to phones over the air and will require a non-rooted, stock ROM phone. According to Verizon, users won’t have to actually wait for the update. They can download it themselves by going to “Menu” > “Settings” > “About Phone” > “System Updates.”

The Droid X will enjoy a nice speed and stability increase with Android 2.2 Froyo. The update includes Dalvik’s new JIT compiler that allows for far better performance. In addition, users will be able to enjoy Adobe Flash 10.1 ready content on the web.
